Game of Thrones Cast of Strong Women

Anyone who is anyone has probably heard about the HBO smash hit, Game of Thrones. If you haven’t seen it yet, I HIGHLY recommend it. It is by far my favorite show of all time. Yes, there are a few X-Rated scenes, but it becomes less about sex and more about the characters as the show goes on.

With the final season about to air, I’ve been reacquainting myself with the characters.

One of the biggest reasons I love the show so much, is that every single woman character is STRONG. I’m not usually the type of person to preach feminism, and that’s not what this is about. It’s about being able to look up to the women on the show to inspire us in our own lives. Despite the low times we can learn how to rise up and perservere. We are stronger than you think!

I realized this one day when every time a woman appeared on the screen, I was like, “Oh I love her!”. What I loved about them was their strength and perseverance.

If you haven’t seen the show yet (what are you waiting on?!), this will not be a spoiler. I just wanted to talk about my favorite characters and why.

Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys is the strongest character on the entire show, IMO. She grew up in hiding after her father, the king, was murdered. She was raised by her abusive brother and later forced to marry Khal Drogo in exchange for her brother to have an army. She endures a lot of abuse and hardship but starts to believe in herself as the show progresses. She soon believes enough that she becomes the queen of dragons and becomes one of the most powerful women in the kingdom. She always tries to rule fair and wins armies by freeing them and giving them the option to leave. Daenerys is such an amazing leader, no one wants to leave and instead they stay and fight for her.

Cersei Lannister

Cersei is one of those characters you love to hate. She grew up without a mother, hating her younger brother for “killing” her during childbirth. Her father raised her along with her twin brother and younger brother. She is fiercely loyal to her father, twin brother, and children, and will do anything to protect them. Cersei also has a deep desire for power and will stop at nothing to have it. She is smart, cunning, and cut-throat.

Arya Stark

Arya is my favorite character. She is the ultimate tomboy who would rather be sword slinging then learning how to become a lady. When her world is destroyed by a family tragedy, she is left alone and on her own. She proves to be pretty awesome with the sword and someone who can definitely take care of herself.

Sansa Stark

Sansa is Arya’s older sister, and I’ll admit, she really annoyed me in the first couple of seasons. But as she matured and went through some hardships herself, she became much wiser and stronger for it.

Catelyn Stark

Catelyn is Sansa and Arya’s mom and after tragedy struck her family, she proved she could take care of them. She would not back down from a fight and was a brilliant advisor during times of war.

Brienne of Tarth

Brienne is my second favorite character. Despite, or maybe because of, her tall and strong nature, she was an excellent swordswoman with high morals and fierce loyalty. If she made a promise, she kept it, no matter the obstacles.

Yara Greyjoy

Yara is Theon’s sister and was treated as the “son” after Theon was taken by the Starks. She was tough and also fiercely loyal to her family. She could lead an army of scoundrels into battle and they followed.

There are so many other strong, female roles on this show, but I just wanted to touch on my favorites. It is rare to find a fantastic show with such a wide variety of powerful women. They all have their unique character traits and seem to learn from their mistakes. Well, maybe not Cersei! Lol.

Have you seen the show? What do you love about it? Who are your favorite characters?
